Building services experts, Project 1, welcome big name brewer Heineken’s move to reopen and refurbish pubs across the UK following a significant cash injection into its Star Pubs & Bars chain.

It hit the national news at the beginning of May that Heineken and its Star Pubs & Bars chain will be investing £39million into refurbishing over 600 pubs and reopening 62 pubs in the UK.

Building services contractor Project 1 – who were recently awarded the esteemed Contractor of the Year award by pub giant Mitchells & Butlers – have come out in support of investments in the UK’s pub industry from leading names like Heineken and Star Pubs & Bars.

“We’ve worked on refurbishment projects within the pub industry for many years, so we’ve seen first-hand the positive effect investment like this can have. Due to the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, the pub industry has certainly suffered, but this financial backing for refurbs and reopenings will be transformative” says Des Brown, Director of Project 1.

Heineken are one of a number of firms investing in the industry, as Greene King also recently announced plans to build a brand new £40million brewery in Bury St Edmunds.

These investments are part of a wider upturn for the British pub and brewery industry. While pub numbers across the UK have been slowly declining, industry leaders are predicting that this new expenditure will bring about vital growth for the sector.

The business’s director, Des Brown, is keen to state the value of investing in refurbishments.

“Investing in high-quality refurbishments is crucial. This can revitalise communities and create enjoyable spaces for socialising. Plus, this can help to increase an establishment’s profits, create more jobs – and boost the economy too!” adds Des.

Project 1’s highly skilled team have provided design, construction, refurbishment and ongoing property maintenance services for independent pubs and pub chains, including Mitchells & Butlers, for over 20 years.

The firm have established themselves as a go-to contractor for design, construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects at pubs, bars and restaurants.

Operating primarily within London, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and the East of England, Project 1 provide services including interior design, construction, carpentry, plumbing and flooring.

“With over 20 years’ experience, we know how to use the budget to create a space which reflects the brand and encourages more customers. This investment from Heineken and other industry leaders is a clear sign of confidence in the future of the pub industry. We’re looking forward to being part of it” concludes Des.
